about me:
http://kathleenpacemysoulexpression.blogspot.com/ my personal blog.
I have my BS in Exercise Science and have been practicing and teaching for well over 10 years. My training in yoga began at University as part of my curriculum of study. http://www4.esu.edu/academics/majors2/programs/exercise_science/exercise_science.cfm
I also trained with Yoga Fit Fihttp://www.yogafit.com/ and was chosen to teach the Yoga Fit method to all instructors that taught for the Philadelphia Sports Club http://www.mysportsclubs.com/default.htm within the Tristate area. I attended many trainings to keep current. Sean Corn http://www.seanecorn.com/ and Duncan Wong are among my favorites for the yoga trainings. Duncan Wong was really intense and an amazingly generous teacher, I learned the most working with him.http://www.yogicarts.com/ My Pilates training was with Pole Star Education, the Elizabeth Larkam Technique. I also completed the level 1 and 2 Pilates Allegro Reformer Training and taught classes in reformer as well as had private clients. http://www.pilates.com/BBAPP/V/about/podcast/elizabeth-larkam-podcast.html
My teaching style for yoga is flow with great attention to alignment and proper technique. Since my background is heavily rooted in anatomy, my teaching reflects that and my students are encouraged to work within the framework of their anatomy and not be concerned about the "perfect" pose. I teach the anatomy of the pose for each individual. My students appreciate that and develop a better understanding of their bodies and their personal yoga practice. I teach all levels and enjoy doing hands on adjustments that are truly therapeutic to my students.
My Pilates classes always begin with the foundational principles of alignment, stabilization, opposition and breathing. I teach all levels, and see the importance of teaching the fundamentals before moving on to more difficult movement. Many people go to a Pilates class and feel really discouraged. All I have to say to that is, you should try my class! I will not let you leave my class with out feeling good about your accomplishments. All students need to realize that not all movement will come easy and that is why they are there! You need Pilates to give you that strength you are lacking and by taking my class and sticking with it you will be amazed how strong you will feel in just a few weeks!
Core strength, you have heard that term a million times. What does it all mean? Your core muscles are your ab's, low back, and your glutes ( your bum). These muscles are so important for optimal health, strength and balance throughout your body. If these muscles are weak, you will have difficulty executing most exercises in proper alignment. Many people can not do a squat or a lunge properly, and it is because there are imbalances in these muscles that are holding you back from accomplishing them. Pilates is a great start for people who can't do squats and lunges because through a mat class you will be performing exercises that target these muscle groups. You will be strengthening and stretching these muscles and making a huge impact on your body's alignment, flexibility and over all muscular balance.

Kathleen Pace, Kids Yoga Program
Grow Yoga Wings is my Kids Yoga Program that I teach for after school programs, pre-school, community centers and kids parties. I am teaching a Kids Yoga class today at Spence's Farm in Chapel Hill NC. It is an enrichment program within the After school Program.I am excited to meet the kids! I will begin with the the story, The Little Pine Tree. We will review the meaning and the kids will have an opportunity to respond and answer some questions that I pose. I will be showing them how to do a Sun Salutation and how to link their breath to each asana. Then we will play freeze dance yoga style. We will close class reflecting on what we learned and bow to our friends in respect and love for each other. http://www.spencesfarm.com/
The class was a great success! I had two girls that eagerly showed me how they could put their feet behind their head! I was truly amazed at the technique of this group age 5 to 11. Once we began our yoga practice they were very focused on their movements. Next time I will start with movement and do the story toward the end as a wind down before Savasana. When I started the class with introductions and the story, the kids were not able to sit quietly and were ready to move, lesson learned. Most kids I find really love to do the final relaxation at the end of class. There is always 1 or 2 busy bees, and I try to help them let go and relax. The kids were really sleepy at the end of a 90 min class. The 90 min actually worked out well since we did a story, questions, yoga practice, dance and yoga, and final relaxation and breathing.

Connie Winstead, Pilates Instructor

I have been a student of Pilates for over 10 years, and after retiring from Duke decided to become certified to teach Pilates Mat classes as one of my “post retirement adventures”. In the spring of 2007 I was certified to teach level I mat through the Pilates Certification Center in Raleigh and began teaching classes at the Durham YMCA in Sept. 07. Since that time I have taught classes at the YMCA, UNC Medical Center Employee Recreation, Hollow Rock Racquet Club, the Chapel Hill Senior Center and Empower Fitness. Over the past 2 ½ years I have also taken additional certification classes in Pilates with the Band, Pilates with weights, Pilates on the ball, Pilates and anatomy, Pilates with the fitness circle and Pilates Level II mat. I like my classes to have VARIETY!

I enjoy teaching students who are new to Pilates, focusing on teaching proper form and helping them develop a strong foundation for more intermediate and advanced movements. The hardest part of teaching level I classes is gauging the level of intensity for a range of abilities, trying to challenge students, but not overwhelm them and stress muscles that are working in new ways. My goal is to create classes which allow students to progress at their on pace, to learn how to modify movements to accommodate their own strengths and problem areas, and to infuse them with excitement about what Pilates can do to improve their flexibility, posture and strength.

I love to be outdoors as much as possible and have been an avid cyclist and hiker, doing several multi-day long distance bike trips each year and have done 3 short section hikes on the Appalachian Trail. I am lucky to have a wonderful group of women friends who share my enthusiasm for exercise and outdoor adventures and I also belong to the Carolina Tarwheels Bicycle Club, which has provided me a great group of cycling friends so riding every weekend has become the norm for me. Through the Tarwheels and my cycling friends, I have learned all the great bike routes in Durham and surrounding counties. I try to do a variety of exercises every week, including Pilates, weight training, walking, jogging, and cycling. For me, exercise and being outdoors is energizing and uplifting and good for both the body and the spirit.
I am currently teaching on-going classes Thursday mornings at the YMCA American Tobacco Branch, Monday & Thursday afternoons at the Chapel Hill Senior Center, and Monday afternoons at Empower Personal Training Studio,Durham.
